Week 9 Update

Welcome to week 9
Here we are at week 9 in our Learning 2.0 journey …. for many of you who started later we know you might be a few weeks behind. DON'T PANIC, you have until 23 May to complete the Discover and Explore activities to be eligible for the prize draw and a certificate of completion (remember Adventures are optional if you're running short of time).

We now have 1,011 people who have commenced the course with 717 successfully registering their learning diary blogs. Incredibly, we also have 23 people who have completed all activities. We know some of you are finding the course challenging, some weeks more so than others, we hope you will persevere and please contact the Pit Crew if you need some extra help.

State Library of NSW Learning 2.0
Following hot on the heels of the NSW public library network, this week saw the launch of the Learning 2.0 programme for State Library of NSW staff. In many ways the course is very similar to yours, but we've included more examples from museums and art galleries.

ALIA professional development (PD) scheme points
Did you know that if you are participating in the ALIA professional development (PD) scheme you can claim 16 points in the "Informal Learning" category for completing this Learning 2.0 course? As the minimum requirement for the scheme is 30 points per year, that will be half the required points for the 2007-2008 PD year.

Wild wiki ways
The NSW learning 2 wiki was set up especially for this course and as we approach Library and Information Week its great to look back at your contributions ~ it really highlights what a diverse, creative and customer focussed experience a career in public libraries offers (except for the bit about the brown snake!). We would like to see someone add an entry on working on a mobile library too - there must be some stories to tell. If you haven't quite got up to
the wiki yet (week 5) the invite key is available from nswpln@gmail.com .

Google docs and Zoho writer
We know quite a few of you have reached week 11 as we've been receiving some great Google docs and Zoho docs. One library reports that Google docs is blocked by their IT department but we will gladly accept Zoho docs as an alternative to complete the activity. We also heard that one of you received a helpful posting from the Zoho customer service team directly on their blog - who says no-one can hear you scream in cyberspace?

We are all in this together
We would like to encourage everyone to take a look at a couple of other participants blogs this week, post a comment for practice and to encourage a colleague in their learning journey. Thank you to everyone who has been posting comments on our course blog as well - we do read them and it is great to hear from you.

Sincerely,
The NSW Public Libraries Learning 2.0 Pit Crew
